Recently Kadee No. 5 magnetic couplers was the standard. Today, McHenry is provided on many manufacturer's rolling stock product lines. Whatever the coupler on RTR products, for good operation, adjustment is required. Using a Kadee coupler height adjustment gauge, placed on track, to measure each car, each locomotive, prior to rail service will avoid derailment problems.
Couplers should move freeley. Bending the coupler shank to the correct height will avoid turnout derailments. Test using the Kadee No. 25 height gauge. To instal and maintain couplers consider purchase of nos. 43 and 60 drill bits, a 2-56 tap, a pin vise to hold them. No. 50 bit for 2-56 screw mounting hole, and no. 53 bit for drill clearance holes. |
