" Precision Craft Models PA models describes what ALCO produced. Alco introduced the PA1 locomotive in 1946 to offer direct competition with EMD's successful "E" series Passeger diesels. This attractive 20001HP loco was their high-speed passeger diesel. Having more horsepower than their leading competitor. With orders from "16" railroads, Alco produced 247 "PA" units and 47 "PB" units until May 1953. The PA units remained in U.S. service until 1978. PA's were stylish, sleek, powerful and were very well suited for America's passenger and fast freight trains. "

" Introduced in Febrary 1952 and produced through November 1953, the SD7 was the 1,500HP six axle big brother to the GP7. Riding on six axel, three-motor trucks, they were designed to offer more starting tractive effort in "road" service than the GP7. In appearance they are very similar to the GP only with a longer hood. The radiators are grouped together at the end of the long hood and not separated as was seen on the GP7. the grill assembly protrudes from the side of the hood whereas the GP7 the grills are flush fit with the hood. The SD7, Special Duty, was a massive locomotive at 60 feet 8 1/2", weighing 360,000 pounds. It was powered by the samerelaible 1,500HP 567B V-16 two-cycle diesel engine as the GP7 and F7. With a maximum speed range of 55 and 89 MPH, depending upon the gearing raitio selected, and a tractive force of 90,000 pounds, the EMD SD series were here to stay. "

" Precision Craft Models HO Cab-forward AC12 model locomotive is made of die cast metal. hand-applied detail parts, sound/DC/DCC equipped. Interestingly, the historical 4294 was the last new steam locomotive ever to be purchased by Southern Pacific. Baldwin utilized the same semi-streamlined cab shape that was practically identical to some of the earlier cab forward classes. Many consider these to be the most attractive of all the AC series. The AC-12's were equipped with both the conventional steam whistle as well as a single note whistle; fog horn. From the beginning of WWII, the Southern Pacific Railroad faced perhaps the most formidable challenge of any stateside railroad. With the port of San Diego being the jumping off point for the war effort in the Pacific, Southern Pacific required motive power that could handle super long freight drags as well as passenger trains. These locomotives had to traverse the rugged terrains from the Gulf of Mexico to Utah and Northern California. Numerous tunnels, many miles of snow sheds and steep grades made the AC-12 the intelligent choice. The simple compound articulate locomotive averaged speeds of 15 miles per hour over the many cuts and passes. With this in mind, the Southern Pacific acquired permission from the War Production Board to purchase a group of 20 locomotives from Baldwin. Baldwin delivered the initial group of AC-12's beginning with #4275, to El Paso, Texas in the Fall of 1943. The balance was received in March of 1944. "

" Diesel Baldwin Sharknose BF-16 Powered A-B Set w/LokSound -- New York Central #1212/3706 (Cigar Band) Relive the glory days of railroading with this line of detailed locos. Models are offered in DCC versions with LokSound for use with DCC systems or DC layouts (requires separate controller to activate sounds) or without sound for DC only. All engines feature a powerful five-pole can motor with flywheel/s, plus exceptional weight for pulling power; an optional traction tire-equipped driver is also included. Models are detailed, painted and lettered to match specific prototypes, and feature working headlight and back-up light, where applicable. Operating Kadee couplers are standard. Engines equipped with LokSound combine silent running decoders with a super high output amplifier, and adjustable volume for synchronized chuff, whistle, bell, squealing brakes, flange squeal, Doppler effect and air let off (in neutral). The system also features load dependent sound, 8Mbit of memory to handle complex sounds, and four-channel sound. New 20-function mapping lets you create custom sound and function operations, and units are compatible with LokSound Programmer for PC control, upgrades or adding custom sounds. Load compensation, switcher mode and Dynamic Drive Control features are also included. Sets include powered A and B units with sound and DCC. B units operate only with lead unit. Several Precision Craft diesel locomotives are offered as Lashed-Up or Lashup. These are multi-unit consists (A unit/B unit) in which the lead unit and trailing unit are tethered together via a user-detachable electrical connector. The electrical connection is required for operation of the second unit, but lead units may be operated by themselves. The electrical tether can be unplugged for transport or storage. "

" The 1,500 HP F3's were remarkably efficient proficient for heavy freight as well as fast-passenger service. With abody design that defines what many consider to be the most attractive diesel ever produced, the F3 offered a large canvas for the wonderfully imaginative and colorful paint schemes that many railroads proudly utilized to show off their passenger trains. The days of the glorious streamers were numbered as many railroads were in need of motive power repacements. "

Upgrade kit works only for PCM models with PCM motherboards. Southern Pacific's engineers created an elegant locomotive when designing the GS-4. Not only was her appearance breathtaking, but mechanically she was stunning. These locomotives had 80-inch drivers, boiler pressure of 300 psi, and small cylinder diameter that provided additional speed and power from earlier designs. The GS-4's developed 5,500HP at 55mph and were cross and counterbalanced to reach maximum speeds of 110mph! Also, a 12-volt motor driven signal light reflector, or Mars light, was placed above the headlight. The beam projected forward in a figure eight to a distance of 1,400 to 3,000 feet and sideways to a distance of 750 feet. All this for the reasonable price of approximately $175,000. 4449 resides at Union Pacific's Brooklyn Roundhouse in Portland, Oregon. "

" EMD produced 807 of the 12 cylinder SW1500 switchers between 1960 and 1974. These prolific switchers are easily recognized by their high mounted walkways, tall-low radius arched roof cab, dual exhaust stacks and a long hood headlight. The SW's were offered with either standard AAR type A or the optional Flexcoil designed trucks. More than half of the railroads chose the Flexcoil trucks. The Flexcoil trucks were lightweight trucks which enabled these locomotives to be used on branchline as well as for road service. "
